Holly Dolly is a fictional concept produced by Luca Ontino, Simone Bocchino, Barbara Tanzini and Valentina Dante and consisting of an animated donkey, started by the German mobile phone ringtone company, Jamba! (those who started the Crazy Frog concept too). Like with Crazy Frog, Holly Dolly became very popular (3rd most downloaded ringtone worldwide, gold record in France and more than 1 million copies sold) and it contain a sample of an old tune of "Ieva's Polka" by Loituma.
Assumingly aimed at young children, Holly Dolly is an animated, singing female donkey from Italy. Behind the curtain of the character are Luca Ontino, Barbara Tanzini, Valentina Dante and DJ Satomi (aka Simone Bocchino). As the story goes, Holly Dolly is a little donkey-girl from the country whose dream was to be a big star. Upon meeting four guardian angels, she was granted wishes to make her dreams come true. The debut album Pretty Donkey Girl (2006) features the single "Dolly Song" in addition to a few covers including Madonna's "La Isla Bonita" and Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry Be Happy." Much of the music consists of simplistic electronic dance set to Holly Dolly's squeaky vocals.
