The Settles Connection is a recording, singing and songwriting group based in Nashville, TN, founded by Odessa Settles. Backing vocal group, consisting of at least: Odessa Settles, Calvin Settles, Shirley Settles, Wayne Settles, Sara Settles, and Todd Suttles ("Suttles" is not a typo and is the correct last name for this artist, and in Feb. 2014, Todd Suttles joined the The Gaither Vocal Band. Uncertain if Todd Suttles continues with the Settles Connection after Feb. 2014) The Settles Connection’s purposes are to help preserve folk, traditional, and gospel music, create recordings and performances through collaborative efforts, and to fulfill a personal desire to honor their father, Walter J. Settles (1928 -1999) – former member of the Grammy-winning Fairfield Four – and his contribution to America’s traditional performance art culture. The group has recorded with artists such as Tim O’Brien, Kathy Mattea, Martina McBride, Randy Travis, Jon Vezner, T-Bone Burnett and Ralph Stanley, Buddy Greene, Darrell Scott, Nashville Chamber Orchestra, Shooter Jennings, Mindy Smith, Tony Joe White, Joni Bishop, Bobby Purify, Danny O’Keefe, Dave Powelson, Stella Parton and many more. Members appear on recordings by Maura O’Connell, Dave Perkins, and Ashley Cleveland. The Settles Connection was named an IBMA Nominee for their work on the Moody Bluegrass: Nashville’s Tribute to the Moody Blues project. Along with artists above, members of The Settles Connection have also shared the stage with Kenny Malone, Jerry Douglas, Casey Driessen, Andrea Zohn, Marty Stuart, Robin Roller, The Moody Blues, John Cowan, Jonell Mosser, The Nashville Symphony Orchestra, The Nashville Choir, American Idol, Mandisa and many more. The group joined with Ashley Cleveland and Odessa on their debut performance on the TOKENS Radio Show’s seventh installment, “Hear the Plight.”
Joel A. Muñoz Martínez was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on March 3, 1982. Randy Acevedo Ortiz was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. They had previous years of experience, singing reggaeton and being a part of many albums before becoming the duo of Jowell & Randy. Jowell had recorded his first song in 1996 entitled “Los Fugitivos”, Randy recorded his first song in 1998, being a part of a CD produced by In The House magazine, alongside other various artists. Jowell & Randy first met in 2000 through a shared producer who introduced them. They later recorded their first single, Todavía Recuerdo, in 2002. They had many recognitions from a radio station Audio Activa 102.3 FM, which led them to record many more songs recorded onto many CD’s such as Time TO Kill Vol.2, Ground Zero, Zona de Perrero, and Los Intocables y Kilates Vol. 2, all productions from Diamond Music. Jowell & Randy gained notability in the United States when they recorded their third single, “Liga No Dan.” Later on Jowell & Randy were featured in the Chosen Few Vol. 2 CD and promoted the CD among 45 cities in and out of the United States. From then on they have been featured in many other productions with various reggaeton artists and have been featured in many albums and singles. In 2006, Randy was featured in the song Siente El Boom, alongside song writer Tito “El Bambino”. Later, they made the “Siente El Boom” remix alongside Jowell and De La Ghetto. The song was featured on Tito’s album Top of the Line. In 2007 the duo joined with other band members, Guelo Star, J-King & Maximan, to form their new band Casa de Leones. The duo released their first album, Casa de Leones, as a group on June 26, 2007. Their first studio album, Los Mas Sueltos del Reggaeton, was released on December 18, 2007
