Producer & DJ from UK with progressive and trance roots. Started DJing in 1985. Owner of Escapade. Founded in August 1995, the Xtravaganza label saw early success with the release of Chicane’s “Offshore”, which reached number 12 in the UK Top 40 and went on to be a global hit. Alex is credited with spotting and developing progressive act Chicane, who also released Xtravaganza’s number one hit with Bryan Adams, “Don’t Give up”. From 1998 to 2002, Alex had a Friday night residence at the world's largest club, Privilege in Ibiza. It was there that he held his own Xtravaganza night. Crowds packed the club’s three dance floors to witness Alex’s famous six-hour sunrise sets, carrying the fans through an eclectic journey of progressive house and intense linear trance. Before his residency at Privilege, Alex displayed an early knack for spotting talent, which played a major role in his success and led to his involvement with top-selling artists including Princes' New Power Generation's (NPG) by collaborating on 'The Most Beautiful Girl in the World', which held a number one chart spot in 1994. This led to Alex’s co-production of NPG’s following hit, 'The Good Life'. Alex also collaborated with Public Enemy's Chuck D by working on Public Domain's high-selling single, 'Operation Blade'. Successful hits like these enhanced Alex’s record sales to the five million mark. After his rendezvous with New Power Generation, Alex became one of the most successful producers in the dance music industry. Having founded Xtravaganza, Alex has been responsible for, and involved in, more than 55 UK top 40 chart hits as well as enjoying success in the overseas markets. Prior to 2002, Alex hit the decks in more than 20 countries such as Australia, Japan, South Africa, the Philippines, Russia and the United States. But it was the United States that embraced Alex’s music the most and had the chance to play at clubs including Exit (New York), Giant (Los Angeles), Buzz and Glow (Washington DC), Spundae (San Francisco) and Avalon (Boston). For two years, Alex held a bi-monthly residency at the Dancestar Award-winning Club Space in Miami, playing to a sold-out venue each night. Following an accident in 2002 that injured his spinal cord, Alex spent a good part of the next year and a half in rehabilitation. At the time of the accident Alex was in the dance music limelight. An entrepreneur and DJ, he was running Xtravaganza Recordings label and held residencies at clubs such as Privilege in Ibiza (the world's largest night club) and Space in Miami. Following the accident, Alex was forced to give up his hectic life. During his recovery, he channeled all of his emotions good and bad into his first passion producing his artist album, "Back from a Break". Alex was honored to be asked to appear at the Grammy Awards "Best Electronic Album" event at Cro Bar in New York where he performed along side electronic music legends Paul van Dyk, Sasha, David Morales, Ken Jordon (Crystal Method) and DJ Rap.
Alex Gold needs no introduction as one of the world’s finest DJs and recording artists. Having played to sell-out crowds in over 20 countries including the USA, Australia, Japan and South Africa, and in more diverse regions such as The Philippines and Russia, it is the States that have provided Alex’s greatest fan base. He has toured the US extensively, playing at all the major venues including the infamous Club Space Miami (where he was bi-monthly resident for two years) Exit NYC, Buzz and Glow Washington, Giant LA, Spundae San Francisco and Avalon Boston. Alex is fast becoming a stateside legend as one of the only British DJs to cover every corner of the States. Last year he undertook an extensive sell-out tour playing 27 different markets encompassing all the major cities. During the summer months for the last five years, Alex has held Friday night residence at the worlds largest nightclub (according to the Guiness Book of Records), Privilege in Ibiza at his own Xtravaganza night, where he is famous for his eclectic 6 hour sunrise sets, taking this legendary venue on a journey through the deepest progressive house to the finest linear trance and back again. His Xtravaganza Friday night sets truly capture the cosmopolitan spirit of Ibiza and ironically it was here at the formerly known infamous Ku club that Alex enjoyed his first taste of the Balearic vibe and went on to become a pioneer of the Ibiza scene. At this time the Ku club (now Privilege) was an open-air tropical paradise where the worlds jet set crowd and glitterati danced alongside hedonism seeking wannabees. It was this early experience which proved to be the most valuable catalyst to Alex Gold’s career. Alex is widely regarded as one of the most successful record industry entrepreneurs and record producers, having founded leading UK dance label Xtravaganza. Throughout his extraordinary career to date, Alex has been responsible for, and involved in, over 55 UK top 40 chart hits as well as enjoying tremendous success in the overseas markets. Most notably, Alex is credited with spotting and developing progressive act Chicane who later enjoyed through Xtravaganza a no.1 hit with Bryan Adams ‘Don’t Give Up’. Alex is also credited for his work with hip hop legend, Public Enemy’s Chuck D who went on to work with Public Domain on their million selling hit single ‘Operation Blade’. Hits like these have enhanced Alex’s record sales to the 4 million mark. Alex’s knack for spotting talent has played a major role in his success and led to him being instrumental in classics with top-selling artists including Princes’ New Power Generation ‘The Most Beautiful Girl in the World’, which shot to the no.1 spot in 1994. This was followed by another hit for Prince as part of the NPG with ‘The Good Life’, which Alex co-produced. Alex founded Xtravaganza Recordings in 1995 following his early global success. The first release on the label was the critically acclaimed ‘Offshore’ which reached number 12 in the UK top 40 and went on to be a global hit. In addition to producing, he has created a visionary dance label, which mixes the underground accessible cosmopolitan sound whilst also appealing commercially and crossing over to the music sales charts. As well as selling millions of records, Xtravaganza are currently enjoying success with advert soundtracks such as the Irish tourism TV commercial featuring ‘Saltwater’ using Clannad lead vocalist Maire Brennan, which has been running across Europe and Australia and is soon to be rolled out across the States. Alex has had numerous no.1 club chart positions over the years. He continues to build on the success of Xtravaganza following numerous hits from acts such as Chicane, Agnelli and Nelson and Black Connection’s ‘Give Me Rhythm’ which topped the US billboard dance chart in 1998. In his own formidable style, Alex went on to confound the music critics yet again last year with his superb mixes of Agnelli & Nelson’s Ibiza classic ‘Everyday’, which recently was honoured with a No. 2 position in Music Week’s end-of-year 2002 ‘Best of’ club chart. At the time of release in 2002 the song topped three simultaneous no. 1 UK Club Chart positions in the same week, (RM, Music Week, Mixmag and Dj) an amazing feat which few artists/DJs have managed to achieve. Darren Ressler, Editor-In-Chief of respected US dance magazine Mixer Magazine (equivalent of Mixmag), commented; ‘As the rest of the English dance music hierarchy basks in the media spotlight, UK label mogul/world-class DJ Alex Gold has been lurking in the shadows for over a decade, rocking dance floors from Ibiza to San Francisco with his own brand of progressive house and trance.” With millions of record sales worldwide and numerous global club chart number ones under his belt, and after founding one of the UK’s most successful dance record labels, Alex has started work on his first album project as a recording artist in his own right. Although he remains tight lipped about the forthcoming album, it is rumoured he will be collaborating with some highly respected artists leaning towards an electro-clash feel. This will showcase a more diverse musical style from that currently featured on the Xtravaganza label. The key and focus is on Alex’s new philosophy of ‘ADVANCED ELECTRONIC DANCE’. Alex’s first single from his new project ‘LA TODAY’ features vocals from one of the worlds most influential electronic artists, Human League front man, PHIL OAKEY. The collaboration between one of the greatest innovators in dance music and DJ culture, combined with one of the most distinctive voices in ground-breaking 80’s electronica produces an effortlessly uplifting and cosmopolitan track. The vocals of the track were heavily inspired by Alex’s relentless touring of the states and in particular his sell out shows in LA. Alex Gold has managed to achieve global acclaim and respect as one of the world’s most exciting and innovative DJ’s and record producers. 2003 will see Alex continuing to tour the world, producing, and working with major artists as well as enjoying future tours of The US and Asia along with the release of his single and following album.
