Born on 16 December 1971, he began his DJ career in 1991, playing at the Tresor and Turbine clubs in Berlin, Germany. His name is often capitalized with a lowercase v: "Paul van Dyk". He has won a string of awards, from 1998 until 2011 - he was nominated for/won over 65 titles for his work as a DJ and music producer, such as those from "DJ", "Ministry" (of Sound), "Mixmag", and "Muzik". Readers of Muzik voted his resident 6-hour sets at the Sheffield club "Gatecrasher" as the "second best club night ever". That same year at the Music Awards in London, he received the "Best International DJ Award".
