ElectroSquad was formed in 1997, Sydney Australia, by Craig Simmons and Peter Cooper. Whilst Peter and Craig had worked together on several musical projects throughout the 90s, ElectroSquad’s debut album ‘Espionage’ was the first attempt to produce a complete album. ‘Epsionage’ drew its influences from a variety of classic synthpop bands such as Erasure, OMD, The Human League, Pet Shop Boys and The Beloved along with “909/808” club beats which in some respects was a hangover from Simmons’ previous instrumental dance album under the name Chiba.
ElectroSquad’s second album ‘Operation K’, drew it influences from further afield incorporating John Barry-esque soundtrack elements and shades of britpop and even trip-pop within the overall context of a synthpop album.
‘Operation K’ paved the way for Craig Simmons’ next solo band - Space March which moved even closer towards an indie sound.
